Harmony in relationships requires a strong desire and a willingness to develop self-understanding, improve communication skills and change habitual behavior patterns. Some resources I find helpful follow.

In his book, Radical Honesty, Brad Blanton encourages us to notice the uncomfortable physical and emotional feelings we experience when we unconsciously and habitually lie to ourselves and to others. That lying restricts both our health and our relationships. Being consistently honest with ourselves brings us greater peace and significantly frees our capacity to live and love more fully.

Compassionate Communication or CC, (originally known as Non-Violent Communication or NVC) is based on the idea that, when we don't have effective ways to acknowledge and express our feelings and meet our own needs, we resort to demands and often experience disappointment. Marshall Rosenberg proposes that when we identify and appreciate our needs and feelings, feel empathy for the needs and feelings of others, and learn to express those feelings and needs effectively, mutual understanding and satisfaction are more available.

Co-Dependency is alive and well in our culture. As partners explore together how co-dependence is active in the relationship, we use a variety of ways to reduce the power of the sources of those unhelpful beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. Resulting changes can be surprising and the effects are liberating.

Reflective Listening includes a focused listening to the words, feelings and body language of another. When the listener expresses the perceived essence of the speaker's words and feelings, the speaker often feels the rare relief of being truly heard. This repeated relief tends to reduce ill feelings, re-introduce mutual appreciation and respect and opens the way for effective resolutions of differences.
